Hello winters!
How do the thoughts of chilly mornings hit you? Have you started preparing for the winter and stocked all the winter supplies? Is your water heater working fine, or are you looking to install a new one this winter season?
Confused!
What will best suit your requirements? An instant geyser or a storage one? Wel,l we are here to help you out. We will discuss the features of both in detail below and by the end of this blog post you will be able to decide what’s going to work best for your home.
Let’s start before it gets too cold.
Instant Geysers Quick and Compact
Instant geysers are also known as tankless geysers. As evident by the name, they don’t have a water tank to store the warm water for long hours; rather, they provide you with hot water instantly whenever needed.
They are a favorite because they are small, compact and can be installed or wall-mounted by a sink or shower side. They use comparatively less power because they don’t keep warming the water throughout the day. They are perfect for a small family, a kitchen or a single bathroom.
But if you need long, steamy showers, this is not going to work in that case. As they don’t have any storage capacity, it may run out of hot water sooner. And they require high voltage consumption, mostly between 3000 to 4500 Watts which requires heavy wiring as the weak wiring cannot tolerate this much load. Also, it may cause tripping during peak hours or voltage fluctuations. If you want to avoid all these things, you need to spend more at the time of installation and if your requirement is more than the mentioned above capacity, you might need to install one geyser per bathroom.
Storage Geysers: Reliable and Family Friendly
Storage geysers, as the name suggests, have a large water tank with the capacity to store hot water and also keep running throughout the day to warm the water according to the pre-set thermostat. They are a more reliable option for a large family or in case you live somewhere where you face load shedding or power outages as a routine.
If you have four or more members in your family or any of your family members are elderly people or kids, you might need to go with storage geysers as they will work best for your loved ones where you don’t need to risk the health and safety of your loved ones during the chilly winters.
Storage geysers though, don’t consume high power but keep running to keep the water warm even when not in use which is one drawback of this type. Otherwise, they are a perfect fit for a large family and provide you with a steady supply of hot water.
A variety of tankless and storage water heaters are available at Electromart.
Important Factors to be Considered in Pakistan
As we reside in Pakistan, there are certain factors that may affect our choice so we must be considerate of these factors before the final decision.
- Load shedding and voltage fluctuations are common problems in many areas of Pakistan. This issue doesn’t make instant geysers a good choice as you may need to wait until it’s the right time for you to switch on your geysers, be it electric or gas. We face load shedding for both.
- Water quality is another important factor. Many areas of Pakistan, including big cities, face a water supply shortage. And most of the water they use is hard. Hard water isn’t safe for instant geysers as it may affect the heating performance and life span of the geysers so storage geysers are more suitable if you also face this issue. Or you may install a small water filter near the geysers so that it gets the filtered water and may perform better.
- Electric wiring and safety are very important factors when it comes to electric geysers. You need to have strong wiring that can bear the load of high voltage consumption by the geysers and as a safety measure you may switch on the geysers five minutes before use but switch off the electric supply while using to avoid any mishap.
- In case of instant gas geysers, you need to be careful as there are so many sudden blasts due to gas accumulation in the closed bathroom, so it’s always recommended to switch off the power supply of the instant geysers before you start using them.
So, Which One Should You Buy?
While making the final decision you need to look for multiple factors which include the required capacity as the first and foremost factor. If your consumption is somewhere between 3 litres to 15 litres of hot water, you may go for instant geysers. If you need 6 litres to 25 litres of hot water, both options will work for you. But if you need more than 25 litres of hot water, you should go for storage geysers.
You should be aware of the cost differences. Instant geysers may cost you somewhere from 15K to 25K but that’s not the only expense they also need heavy wiring. However, storage geysers may cost you around 25K to 45K. The pricing for both options depends on the size and brand of the water heater.
If you have a solar setup, you can save on power consumption by doing all your routine chores that require hot water consumption during the day to avoid high power consumption and bills. You should also choose a stainless steel or enamel-coated drum to save the water heater from rust and corrosion and make it last longer.
Answer the question below to finalize your decision:
Do I need water instantly; or do I need more of it at once?
